"GAME STORYLINES
• Seeking bowl eligibility in the final month of the season, Pitt hosts nationally ranked Duke at Heinz Field. The No. 24 Blue Devils are 6-1 overall and atop the Coastal Division logjam with a 2-1 league mark. The Panthers are 4-4 and 2-2.
• Pitt and Duke are annual foes as members of the Coastal Division. In last year's inaugural ACC meeting, the Panthers outlasted the Blue Devils, 58-55, behind six Tom Savage touchdown passes. The combined 113 points set a Pitt single-game record.
• Duke will visit Pittsburgh for the first time in nearly 40 years. The Panthers last hosted the Blue Devils during the 1975 season. Pitt triumphed in that game, 14-0.
• Duke owns the nation's No. 5 scoring defense, surrendering just 15.1 points per game. The Panthers are scoring 29 points per contest this year.
• Pitt sophomore running back James Conner is making a strong case for ACC Offensive Player of the Year. Conner leads the ACC and ranks seventh nationally in rushing yards with 1,079. He also tops the ACC and is fifth nationally with 14 rushing touchdowns.
• Led by James Conner, the Panthers are producing 233.9 rushing yards per game to rank 19th nationally and third in the ACC. Duke, in contrast, is giving up an average of 193.4 yards on the ground, which ranks 13th in the ACC and 99th nationally.
• Keying Duke's success has been turnover margin. The Blue Devils are an ACC-best plus-8 in that category. Pitt is last at minus-6.
• Pitt is fielding one of its youngest rosters in memory. Pitt went through the preseason with 81 underclassmen (53 freshmen and 28 sophomores), the highest total of any Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) team in the country.
