There is very heavy fighting going on between the Nazis and the self-defense forces around both Lugansk and Donetsk in addition to many other towns. The Nazis are doing a lot better around Donetsk than they are around Lugansk. The self-defense forces have definitely retreated in the past few weeks and they control less territory than they did before.
Nevertheless, a large Nazi contingent has been cut off and nearly or completely surrounded in an area called “The Southern Cauldron” for weeks now.

They cannot be reinforced by air and air supplies are intermittent. This heavy armored group is running out of food and fuel. They have sustained heavy losses of men up to 50% of their fighting force. They are now holed up near forested areas waiting things out. They continue to be pounded incessantly but have not yet been defeated.

The Southern Cauldron is near where the jet down, south of that area. The south end of the Cauldron is the Russian border. They are surrounded by self-defense forces on all three sides.

This video below shows the results of very heavy fighting around Lugansk yesterday. Nazis were hit hard by self-defense forces. Here you see the loss of what looks like an armored column. I do not know anything more about this battle.
