As for November we have a few days to celebrate. November 1st is National Cook for Your Pets Day. Make a healthy, holistic meal for your pup or bake some biscuits. Peel a sweet potato and cut it down into cubes. Boil is and add only fresh rosemary to the water. Let it cool and serve to your pooch as a treat. Sweet potato is low in calories and is great for a dog with a sensitive stomach.
Raise awareness for your local rescue the week of November 5th to the 11thto commemorate National Animal Shelter Appreciation Week. Bake some cupcakes and sell them at a local pet store to raise money for your town’s shelter. Or just stop in to walk the dogs or play with the cats.

The month of November is Senior Pet Month. Senior pets are often the last ones left in animal shelters. It is important to make senior dogs feel as comfortable as they can. To help a senior dog with soar teeth and gums try pouring a homemade beef stock into an ice-cube tray. Once it has cooled put it in the freezer. Once the cubes freeze take them out and serve as cool and soothing treats for painful gums.

For an older pet with hip dysplasia give treats with a lot of glucosamine and chondroitin. Let a dog with hip and elbow dysplasia walk into cool water to help with aches and pains. Give a little extra love to your senior pet this November. A lifetime of love from an animal is an amazing gift.
