After a horrendous spate of being cooped up at home coupled with ridiculously late nights, I finally had the chance to head out and one of the many treats I was plied with was Marmalade Pantry’s Cupcake of the Month – Peoneve.
Penhaligon’s collaborated with Marmalade Pantry to create a cupcake featuring some of the notes of Peoneve. Peoneve, which premiered in Penhaligon’s in late 2012 is a beautiful floral with a little edge – it features Violet Leaf, Peony, Bulgarian Rose, Hedione, Vetiver, Musk and Cashmere Woods. Peoneve, along with Juniper Sling, is one of the Penhaligon’s fragrances I wear the most. I love Peoneve because while it is a rose fragrance, it is far more exotic and lush than a regular rose scent given the addition of the Vetiver and Cashmere Woods – like I mentioned in my original review, it is “pretty edgy”.
The Peoneve cupcake doesn’t deviate far from the notes of Peoneve. No, it is not like using the fragrance as a mouthwash. Instead, you have a Violet-scented frosting (that is thankfully not greasy and cloying) sitting atop a very dark and dense chocolate cupcake.
But the chocolate is not the main attraction here – it is this amazing Rose Jam that is nestled inside the cupcake that makes this special.
I wish that rose jam was bottled and sold – I would have it everyday. On pancakes, toast, vanilla ice-cream … I already have grand plans for it. I know some bespoke delis sell Rose Jam and now I’m on a quest to seek it out and purchase it. But for now, if you, like me, need a quick rose fix, do get yourself to Marmalade Pantry and have yourself a Peoneve cupcake. It will be on the menu till 31 Oct 2013. The bonus is that it comes served with a Peoneve fragrance vial so you can relish the moment throught the day (or 2). I’ve heard that the Peoneve cupcake is immensely popular and sells out daily.
