Peg Leg Porker 12 Years Review

Peg Leg Porker 12 Years is the third release from Pitmaster Carey Bringle. The first release was a NAS cask strength release and the second was the Peg Leg Porker 8 Years I reviewed yesterday. All of the whiskeys released so far have been sourced from George Dickel and undergo a unique process before bottling.

In Peg Leg Porker’s Words: Peg Leg Porker 12 Years

“This 12-year-old is something very special. After the whiskey is taken from its barrels, it is filtered through hickory, creating our signature flavor and color.”

At this point the story is pretty straight forward and there’s nothing else to the back story I can add, so let’s mosey on down to the Peg Leg Porker 12 Years review.

EYE
Caramel

NOSE
Warm rustic aroma of sweet grain and oak with notes of caramel, biscuits, vanilla, orange peels and spice. Light bits of graham and dark fruit come and go as it sits.

PALATE
Oaky heavy dark fruit and clove heavy spice spread quickly and notes of caramel, vanilla and orange peels arrive as they do. Towards the finish bits of cocoa, graham and biscuits pop up.

FINISH
Long oaky fade with layers of cocoa, dark fruit, corn, spice and vanilla.

BALANCE, BODY & FEEL
Fantastic balance, rich round body and a nice heavy oily feel.

OVERALL
Peg Leg Porker 12 Years is just awesome. It has that classic Dickel character, but the oak and dark fruit show through much more here. I’d put it closer to what I’ve experienced in various Dickel Single Barrels than what I’ve found in the Dickel 12 which is what the PLP 8 year reminded me of (note, GD 12 does not mean 12 years).

I’m enjoying everything about this whiskey and if it was available in Los Angeles, especially at $86, I’d have a bottle sitting in my apt right now. ThePeg Leg Porker 12 Years is definitely worth it if you live in an area you can pick it up.

SCORE: 92/100 (A-)
