Party Hosts Guide: How To Serve Food Everyone Will Like Imagine this... you're a guest at a party. With that being the case, of course you're probably not going to be briefed in advance about the food.
You're starved. You were too busy to eat earlier, on the day of the party. So, you've "saved yourself" to have room for all of the fantastic dinner party food you're anticipating, that you've been invited to eat.
The appetizers look delicious and are - and the drinks are tasty, "safe", and nothing out of the ordinary. You're still hungry and can't wait to sit down to eat dinner - and now it's time.
A lot of times, foods that we dislike as children are the same foods that we grow up to love as adults. But that's not always the case.
For some people it can be scary to step out of their comfort zone and try something new. But when you have three strikes against you; being hungry and faced with being served food in the past you haven't liked - while being a gracious guest at the same time, what are you supposed to do?  How do you handle it?

Keep It Real

Consider how you would feel, if you were hosting  this dinner party. There's really no rhyme or reason, or set rules, for party hosts who are having a dinner party. The key as the host os to present a menu so "guest friendly" that you hope will resonate with everyone - serving at least one "standard" as a backdrop for guests who don't like the entree.
The key as a guest is to graciously decline what you're not fond of and focus on what is being served that you do like.

Serve "Standards"

Avoid serving "Cute food"; trendy dishes that are all the current rage that aren't time tried, tested, and approved by most to taste good. "Food of the moment" or trendy food dishes that have to be explained to your guests is never a good way to go.

Honestly Is The Best Policy

A culinary style might be hot at the moment and on trend, but pass on it if the group that you're feeding aren't adventurous eaters. If you're struggling coming up with menu options, don't magnify the problem by apologizing to your guests about what you have chosen to serve. It is what it is. You've made your food menu decisions - own it. But know that you usually can't go wrong serving poultry or fish with a hearty vegetable side dish that would appeal to a guest whose culinary style is vegetarian or vegan.

Take Comfort

Choose to serve at least one dish that people will automatically know; something that just about everyone likes. What's your best option? Serve something from the "comfort food" category. When you're known to be a quintessential "great party host" serve  a few general consensus dishes that can never go wrong - you're more likely to feel confident about your menu choices and be complimented as a result.

I do this... I write to help to create to opportunities for all who choose to pursue their passion to have parties almost irregardless regard to economic constraints.
I think if we keep talking about the cost of parties (I write blog posts, you write comments), together, maybe we can break down some of the party industry's price barriers and shame some of the people who've taken your money and delivered a poor quality product right into growing a conscious and treating you right (nice thought, huh?).
Opportunities to be inspired about parties are everywhere. Yet, people looking out for your wallet are few and far between. My goal is to inspire you, causing you to question the way things are that have been the status quo for too long. When we stand together and speak up, we can be a powerful force.
Let's keep the conversation of change going. Because in the sea of everyone talking, one voice is a whisper... several voices are a scream.
Leave a comment and share your thoughts, ideas and suggestions below. Remember to be as specific as possible because what you have to say helps us all.
Always... be encouraged and encourage others too,
