Fashion Magazine
Oh, Mr. Lagerfeld, you've captured my heart again. I think what makes him such a perfect fit at Chanel is not only his obvious genius, but his ability to move such and iconic brand forward every season. And all the while, paying homage to what makes Chanel a classic. Chanel's Spring/Summer 2013 collection, presented today in Paris, illustrated this point beautifully. Every piece shown was Chanel in the truest sense of the word, but it was also something new, something I would have never expected from the brand.
And, not to be overlooked, Karl and company basically designed a full year's worth of fashion for Spring/Summer 2013, as today's fashion show featured 80 looks. Not 80 pieces, 80 looks. My mind can't even do that kind of fashion math.
As I am admittedly a Chanel purist, my favorite looks came courtesy of Karl's black and white creations, especially the ones that featured the huge polka dot-esque buttons. And while the oversized, elaborate shoulders were a bit jarring to me at first, I found myself developing a fondness for them as they seemed to bring a clean sensibility to the looks.
Since there was such a huge range of designs in this show, I'd be very interested in knowing which pieces you liked best. Check out the full collection here and let me know your thoughts...
P.S. Whenever talking about Chanel, I always forget that Karl has been the creative genius behind the brand for nearly 30 years. So I guess he is also part of the reason Chanel is so iconic...
