Paris & Beyond Opening Night

By Eyepreferparis88 @eyepreferparis

PHOTO OPENING-1After many months of planning, coordinating schedules, numerous phone calls, and painstakingly selecting the photos, the big day arrived for our photo exhibit. Since we only had the gallery space for a week, we riskily decided to install the show and have the opening the same day.

Looking through thousands of photos from the last six years to choose what I would show for this exhibition, my sunset and evening photos kept leaping out at me, as there was a cohesiveness and strength to them .The mystery and colors of the night intrigue me. I also chose to show the recent Abstract Metro photos in a small format, and larger ones of the excavated Louvre-Rivoli and Reaumur -Sebastopol metro stops.

The gallery was formerly a bookshop, still retaining the bookshelves, so we had to work around the spaces in between the shelves. Meredith and I were blessed to have two angels help us install, my partner Vincent and Meredith’s closest friend Jerry. (Both of them have lots of experience installing shows, as Vincent is an artist and has had many shows, and Jerry has installed many exhibitions around the world, as he is the manager of the Karsh estate).
Mind you, I have never hung a single photo in my life, so Vincent was an absolute godsend. The first series of photos he started to hang was a collection of 20 Abstract Metro photos on one wall. The wall I chose to hang them, along with several others, was a flimsy, thin piece of board covering over the bookshelves. As Vincent started to hammer in the nails, he realized they weren’t going to work, as they wouldn’t stay. There was a hardware store down the block, so Vincent went to see what solution he could find. He found the right type of nail, so after that it went smoothly until we had another snag/partial disaster. The 20 photos were all hung and looking great, but as a safety precaution, Vincent put putty on the back of each photo to secure them. As he started to press one of the photos against the wall, all of them crashed down on the floor. Luckily only one frame shattered, and it didn’t scratch the print. After that it was pretty smooth sailing and Vincent now knew how to work with the thin boarded walls.
Although the opening was from 7PM to 9PM, some early birds arrived at 6: 30 and by 8PM the gallery was buzzing with people appreciating the work and drinking wine. Approximately 80 people attended and we were pleased as punch with the turnout. We were so thankful to have so many supportive friends and guests who came. Several blog readers attended and also some tour clients.
Things started to wind down by 9:30 and we finally closed the gallery at about 10PM, having started at 8:30 that morning. I was happy, elated, exhausted, and wired. It was a wonderful and rewarding first experience and I look forward to having more shows in the near future.
We missed seeing many of you at the opening, so please come by another time this week. The gallery is open today and Wednesday, 12PM to 7PM, Tuesday 2PM-7PM, and Thursday 12PM-8PM, as we will have a closing party from 6PM-8PM.
