I recently had the pleasure to read Charles Dickens’s masterpiece Bleak House. The book is populated by a large variety of brilliantly drawn characters. One of these characters is Mr. Harold Skimpole. He is a man who loves the poetry of life, but has no idea of money. In other words, he likes to enjoy the best that life can give him, but since he has no idea of money and no liking for toil and hardships, he does not like to work for these good things. Instead, since he is happy to call himself a child, he believes it his right and others’ duty to pay for his comforts and pleasures.

Now, my case is not so bad, I hope! For I am really working very hard to earn the little that I do. But understanding money business, banking means and methods and all the financial jargon is really not my thing.
But recently I came across a money related app that did make me take notice. The app is Oxigen Wallet, India’s first mobile wallet. What this mobile wallet does is it lets the users pay bills, get recharges, buy tickets and other stuff and in a very simple way using just the mobile phone. What it also does is help the user transfer the money to or get money from contacts on the social networks like Facebook, Whatsapp etc. without having to know or input any bank details. And when users send money to contacts on such social networks, they also have the option to send with the message of money transfer their own messages, photos etc.
Oxigen Wallet has been launched by Oxigen Services India Private Limited, a company that has been a leader in India in payment solutions for over 10 years. As per the information I got, Oxigen has so far processed over 2 billion payment transactions amounting to over Rs. 20,000 crores, through small retail, modern retail chains and banking websites. Oxigen is ranked number 1 on NPCI’s mobile banking platform IMPS and facilitates Instant Money Transfer across 60+ banks. And now, with the addition of social connect feature, Oxigen is seeking to reach India’s 900 million mobile users and 100 million Facebook accounts and the users of other social media services like WhatsApp, Twitter etc.

This social connect feature of Oxigen Wallet is powered by Fastacash™. Fastacash, incorporated in Singapore in 2012, provides a global platform to enable the users to transfer value (money, airtime, other tokens of value, etc.) and digital content (photos, videos, audio, messages) through social networks and messaging platforms.
Talking about this feature of Oxigen Wallet, Mr. Pramod Saxena, Founder, Chairman & Managing Director of Oxigen Services (India) Pvt. Limited said, “The unique social connect brought to us through our exclusive partnership with Fastacash™, places Oxigen Mobile wallet distinctly apart from any other player in the market. Merging payments with social and mobile will change the way people pay for their everyday needs.  We will continue to evolve the service by adding more products & features, thereby creating an ecosystem for payments where you will no longer need multiple mobile apps for payments of different services. In other words, a single mobile app will meet all your payment needs and set money free, in its true senses.”
And “We believe that social is going to play a critical role in the adoption of new technologies, especially as it relates to payments. India’s youth is adopting new services and technologies at a rapid pace. They are using their mobile devices to access content and stay connected through social platforms like Facebook, WhatsApp, Viber, Twitter, among others. With Oxigen Wallet, we are able to bring our innovative solution to the Indian consumer, who will now, for the first time, be able to securely share money and airtime with friends and family, across any social network and messaging platform”, said Vince Tallent, Chairman & CEO Fastacash

Now, any service that deals with money has to be absolutely secure. And Oxigen Wallet comes with the assurance of being “bank grade, safe and operator agnostic.” It has multiple layers of security and encryption of information. And Oxigen Wallet is bank and operator agnostic. That is, it is not limited to a particular bank or telecom operator. Anybody can download the app and use it to send money to or receive money from user of any bank or mobile service.

For example, to send money to a contact on Facebook, the user of Oxigen Wallet just needs to open the app on his phone, choose the contact, input the amount to be sent, add a personal message or photo, input Oxigen Wallet’s password and the money gets transferred. The receiver receives a message of the money transfer and can use the money received to pay bills, get recharges or pay for stuff through the Oxigen Wallet.

Oxigen Wallet is available for Android and iOS devices and will soon be available for Windows smartphones as well.
