Owner’s Love for Disabled Dog is the Sweetest

By David13676 @dogspired

BowieOne Redditor’s photo of her newly-disabled pet is going viral. Her message: “You may never walk again but we’ll never stop having adventures together.”

Reddit user thepoultron (who we’re assuming is a woman), shared this photo of her paralyzed dog Bowie earlier today, and it quickly made its way to the front page with hundreds of comments.

Bowie, a 6-year-old Chesapeake Bay Retriever, was playing fetch with the Redditor’s parents and Bowie’s own son, 95-pound Mac, when the two dogs collided in a freak accident that left the mother with a broken back.

After two weeks in the ICU, Bowie finally came home two days ago, but the accident paralyzed Bowie from the waist down, a tragedy for a normally active and adventurous breed.

“She lives on a farm and loves to run and swim,” her owner commented in response to another user, “She still had another 5+ years of an amazingly active life to look forward to… But now she can’t do anything on her own.”

But Bowie’s owner is determined to give her as much of her life back as possible. The dog undergoes physical therapy three times a day, and her family is already exploring options to restore her mobility.

Some Redditors expressed their concerns about these treatments merely prolonging Bowie’s suffering, but to this her owner replied, “If you saw her, you’d still say she’s the happiest dog in the world.”

Bowie’s family is determined to keep her healthy, happy and active for as long as possible.

“She’s seen me through a lot the last 6 years,” her owner wrote. “I’m happy to be here for her for the next ~6+ to come.”
