Oskar Blues Ten FIDY – It Comes in a Can – So Drink It from the Can

I had seen an old (2011 vintage) Six pack at my local place but being the dead of summer i passed on it,  when i went back to grab it at the end of August,  it had already been broken apart and all the singles had sold out.

In the end all is well, and I lucked out and was able to pick it up the day it came into my local shop.

I tried one can poured out and another right from the can a few days later.  The can wins in this case, but more on that later.

Oskar Blues describes ten FIDY as: [a] titanic, immensely viscous stout is loaded with inimitable flavors of chocolate-covered caramel and coffee and hide a hefty 98 IBUs underneath the smooth blanket of malt. Ten FIDY (10.5% ABV) is made with enormous amounts of two-row malt, chocolate malt, roasted barley, flaked oats and hops. Ten FIDY is the ultimate celebration of dark malts and boundary-stretching beer.

ten FIDY Poured jet black and thick, with a mocha colored head (please forgive the extra head in the photo i didn’t think it would foam up like that and pour a bit hard).

The aroma is all roast-  notes of chocolate and coffee. The taste is balanced, maybe leaning to the sweet side, with the flavors following the aroma,  The body it thick with a creamy mouth feel.  A very easy drinker.  No real hint of Alcohol.

I have generally been of the mindset that if the product comes in a can it should be drunk from the can, as normally, pouring into a glass more or less smelled and tasted the same.

With ten FIDY though, I felt as though the aroma was concentrated and enhanced in the can.  It really did smell better to me.  Taste was about the same, but the nose was amazing!

Pour it into a glass or drink it from the can, either way you are in for a huge treat.

For any New Jersey Readers:  Hunterdon Distributors is making donations to the CO flood victims from the sales of any CO based beers through the rest of October.  Not that you needed another reason to pick it up, but this is a great one!   More Information can be found here: Colorado Flood Relief
