Oprah Winfrey and James Earl Jones were awarded honorary Oscars by the Academy earlier this week. James, was given the Governors Award and lifetime achievement award (along side Dick Smith – the makeup artist from The Exorcist), while the media mogul was bequeathed the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award for her work.
Not everyone is a fan, of course. Comments from various article posts are livid about Oprah’s award. Even with her being snubbed for her role in The Color Purple, some are still annoyed that the “anointed” Queen of Media will now be a member of the Academy.
With someone as popular as Oprah, surely she is used to having all these haters but can’t she catch a break? If Darth Vader himself can get an award, let Miss O have her day.
