Nottingham Forest fans have been given a glimmer of good news this week, and die hard fan Lee Clarke tells us why.
On Wednesday night former player and manager Frank Clark joined the likes of Niall Quinn and Jimmy Hill in taking the chairmanship at their beloved club.
Clark is quite simply the most successful manager in my lifetime as a Red and I can’t help but feel this move is, at the moment, just what the doctor ordered for Nottingham Forest Football Club.
He had his teams playing a style of football that was whilst not majorly attractive won the club many games when playing ugly. Not only that but he was renowned for signing unfashionable players and having total belief that they could be the best they wanted to be with sheer hard work.
The likes of Colin Cooper, Bryan Roy and Stan Collymore were all signed by Clark with no major reputations and all three went onto to bigger and better things after leaving the City Ground.
Collymore actually said weeks ago on his Talk Sport show that Forest should approach Clark and get him back as Chairman. Not as stupid as some people who like to bet money on football might think eh?!
On top of the refreshing news regarding Clark, Reds fans now found out this morning that Portsmouth manager Steve Cotterill has been given permission to talk to the club about succeeding Steve McClaren as manager. Cotterill is quite simply, with the position the club is at as a whole at the moment, the best manager the club could get.
Lots of the so called ‘fans’ of Forest will be in uproar that we aren’t appointing Martin ‘can I have some money please’ O’Neill or Billy ‘rest your best players for key games’ Davies and instead opting for the low key budget approach.
The harsh reality is though that Forest are in a mess and gone are the days where will sign players for £2 Million at a time.
Those studying football betting tips will know that Cotterill is known for playing attractive football and producing results over a period of time. At Notts County he only tasted defeat on one occasion as manager in leading them to the League Two title.
Then, last season despite transfer embargos and not a penny spare, he led Pompey to 16th in the Championship, this after not winning till the middle of October and not spending one penny to sign a player.
Forest fans will enjoy the Steve Cotterill era.
