By Sheril @bsheril

Last Wednesday We celebrated onam in my class , actually onam is a festival celebrated in Kerala India. It is celebrated because on this event the great King Mahabali visits their people is their belief and it last for 10 days all the days were engaged with full activities .A unique thing is everyone seems to be in the same dress on this occasion men wear dhoti and women in saree ,these colths looks very attractive with a color combination of white and gold. Of course every festival has its own food in the same why Onam has it too. A traditional south Indian meals served in banana leaves with rice and pulses along with it lot of sweets and pickles and this event is famous for its “Payasam” a dish which is made up of savories + Milk + Sugar .Another thing is “Pokolam” which is similar to Rangoli but in Pokolam they use full of flowers decorated in a attractive manner .In Kerala they conduct lots of boat races in that snake boat race is a mega event where a long boat which consists of 50 people to row the boat and on each boat has their own band of music to encourage the people to row the boat faster .I enjoyed the celebration in my class and it was interesting to learn their culture. “Kerala = God’s Own Country “
