The Origin of the tradition
Back in ancient times, Greeks would gather at the temple of Hera, which is where the fire for the modern Olympics torch is ignited. This year the beautiful ceremony to light the Olympic flame was held in May amidst the ruins of the ancient temple of the goddess Hera. It served as the appropriate place to light the flame by uniting the ancient with the modern games. The ceremony was played out by actors and actresses dressed as the temple priests and priestesses and the flame was lit using the sun rays and a semi parabolic mirror.
