Nuit Blanche 2013 & A Paleo Apple Crumble Recipe

By Sarahohm @sarahohm
Hey Loveys,
Here we are again... it's Sunday! And again, my weekend went by too darn quickly. This past week was a good week in terms of workouts and food! I started this challenge for myself called 5k A Day in October. What is it? Fairly self explanatory... I am running 5k a day in October.. lol. I'm actually not going to run everyday because I know how important rest is for the body, but most days I will be running 5k. This week was a good start. My blood sugars went low a couple of times during my workout which caused me to have to end early, but I did end up getting most of it done before that happened anyways! :)
If you want to join me in my little challenge, you can use the hashtag #5kADay and tag me (@sarahohm) so I can cheer you on! I thought it might be kind of fun! :)
On Friday night C and I went out for a friends birthday. Karolina was the big birthday girl for the night!

We went to a random bar called The Madison Avenue Pub... it's basically a bar full of university students, it was hilarious. I will spare you the details of how the washrooms looked.... I want to get the image out of my mind forever. It was fun to hang out and be with friends though! I managed to get pictures with a few people, but not everyone..

Hello Wade.

I didn't drink a lot because I had good intentions of being beyond productive on Saturday. I woke up and totally felt like I was going to be amazing and do everything I wanted to do, which included but was not limited to:
- Cleaning out the storage unit and throwing away A LOT of stuff we don't need to keep.
- Moving stuff from in the condo INTO the new found space in the storage unit.
- Clean the shit out of my condo and make more space for.. well... living.
Want to know what I ended up doing?
Well I started my day by going for a little walk. I went to Queen St. to buy this sweater I had been eyeing up for a couple of weeks.

It is so warm and delicious... I LOVE it!! I also grabbed myself a coffee and made my way back home.
When I got home C and I climbed into bed to watch tv. We ended up napping and literally doing NOTHING but napping and watching Food Network reality shows. Lol. AHH, nothing on my list got done!!! Brutal.
Then I was asked a couple weeks ago if I would attend Nuit Blanche and live Tweet and Instagram the event from 7-11pm... uhm... yes?? I WOULD LOVE TO! So we spent last night wandering around downtown Toronto checking out the cool art exhibits that were on display. For those who don't know what Nuit Blanche is, it's an all night art exhibit that happens once a year. It runs from Sunset to Sunrise and there are tons of different exhibits to go and experience! Here are some that I took photos of:

It was insanely busy downtown last night but it was super fun to participate none the less!! I was absolutely exhausted by the time I got home last night, I crashed so hard when I finally got into bed! :)
This morning I woke up and got ready and hit up the grocery store. I needed to desperately restock my fruits and veggies and I also needed ingredients to make a paleo apple crumble to take with me to my cousins house for dinner tonight! I was a bit nervous when they told me to bring dessert because,w ell, we all know how NOT good my baking skills are. I think I managed to make it work though. My cousin Justin doesn't eat wheat, diary, processed sugar, alcohol.... I think that's all... so hopefully this paleo apple crumble will be ok for him! Also.. you know what this means right?....
RECIPE TIME!!!
Paleo Apple Crumble
Ingredients
3 peeled small apples
1.5 cups of almond meal
1/2 cup of finely chopped coconut
4 tbsp of tahini (I used peanut butter instead, not paleo, I know.. but my store didn't have tahini and I had to google things to use instead of it. PB was the easiest).
4 tbsp of maple syrup (I used agave nectar. I hope it's ok... I already owned agave.. so we'll see).
Cinnamon to taste
Maple Granola to taste
Directions
1. Set oven to 375F or 190C.
2. Peel and chop your apples, and place them at the bottom of your baking pan thingy that you use.
3. Sprinkle apples with cinnamon, however much you want to use is up to you.
4. Combine the rest of the ingredients (not including the granola, that comes later) in a bowl and spread over the apple as evenly as possible.
5. Put the granola on top (I had this in my cupboard and wanted to use it, you don't have to use granola if you don't want to) to taste...
6. Sprinkle more cinnamon on top.
7. Bake for about 15 minutes, but keep an eye on it, it will be done when the crumble is golden brown!
