Adelanto City Manager D. James Hart, Ph.D. recently announced that the city will continue to seek feedback from the community and key stakeholders on the city’s fiscal emergency.
The city will continue to update the public so to inform residents how to protect essential community services, according to the city’s website at ci.adelanto.ca.us.
In a declaration of a fiscal emergency, Hart told residents that “Like many other cities in California, Adelanto is in a dire financial position because of the ongoing effects of the Great Recession.”
According to the online statement, “Adelanto has been forced to cut nearly $2.5 million dollars from the city’s budget – impacting public safety services and 911 emergency response times, among other essential city services. Unfortunately, Adelanto’s fiscal crisis threatens the city’s ability to basic city services such as police, fire, and 911 emergency services.”
The essential community services the city is concerned with protecting include:
– Maintaining 911 emergency response times
– Attracting quality businesses to Adelanto
– Preventing the elimination of fire protection and paramedic services
– Creating more high-paying jobs in Adelanto
– Preventing reduction of police protection services
– Maintaining gang and crime prevention programs
