North Coast Music Festival: Afterparties, New Stages, and Interactive Features

By Urbanmatter Chicago @UMatterChicago

Get ready to groove with “summer’s last stand” at North Coast Music Festival.

It’s all happening at Union Park, September 1 – 3. Going into its eighth year, the festival has added more artists, as well as a new stage, and an official after-party lineup. With headlining artists including Deadmau5, Lil Dicky, Damian Marley, and Ween, get ready to send off the summer dancing.

Exploring New Genres

In true North Coast fashion, the festival samples all kinds of music, from jam-bands to hip-hop. And with the addition of the new stage, each day it will portray a different genre: house, bass, and beats.

Friday’s house stage features Derrick Carter, Gene Farris, Zebo & Coro, My Boy Elroy & Duke Shin, Boogie Munsters, and Samone.

Saturday’s bass stage includes Chicago’s Most Wanted, Stratus, Crystal Knives, Jsquared, Hi-Five & Who Cares, and Dogma.

Sunday closes out with DJ Rude One, Jesse De La Pena, Altered Tapes, Stefan Ponce, Chicago Turntablist Authority, DJ Scend, and Red Rum Rio on the beats stage.

More Than Music

For those looking to get more out of their experience, North Coast will be featuring the Living Art Gallery, with collectives by Ava Grey Designs and The Elder Tree.

The Living Gallery makes its return with a special addition; as NCMF will be reviving the “Silent Disco” this year. Festival-goers are treated to a specially-curated DJ set via headphones, all whilst watching live painting.

And for those hoping to find some Zen in their weekend, Cassandra Justine of ChooseJoy Yoga will be leading complimentary VIBE Flo yoga sessions. Classes are complimentary and held daily, but space is reserved to a first-come, first-serve basis.

North Coast will feature four days of after parties, beginning on Friday and running through Monday, where a special closing party featuring a surprise guest will close out the weekend. Afterparties will be held at various venues throughout the city, including the MID, Concord Music Hall, Bottom Lounge, Prysm, and Sound-Bar.
