Save the Children is campaigning to help save the lives of children in Africa. According to the charity, half of the 8 million children who die each year are in Africa, yet Africa has only 3% of the world’s doctors, nurses and midwives. Save the Children is campaigning to increase the number of health workers in Third World countries, and so save children’s lives.
When world leaders meet at the UN in New York, tomorrow, Save the Children will be asking them to commit to filling the massive shortfall in midwives, nurses and doctors in the poorest countries.
Save The Children organised a conference on Saturday. Liz from the Charity and Chris from Thinly Spread are in New York to meet the world leaders tomorrow. They will be calling on David Cameron to play his full part in solving the health worker crisis which is costing millions of children’s lives.
Gemma and Michelle challenged us bloggers to write 100words for the campaign. So here is my tale:
I was lucky enough to have two straight forward pregnancies and both of my children were born in the birthing pool at my local hospital. We were under the care of fabulous midwives and health visitors. We take all these for granted but children in Africa are dying because of the shortage of healthworkers. Let's spread the word and make a difference for them.
