In a recent post on this blog, I mentioned a report about the mobile phones landscape in India in 2014. It shows that more and more companies are releasing devices with high-end specifications at lower rates. And more and more companies are also opting for the online-exclusive launch of their products. Seems like the trend is catching up in other product segments too.

On 19th February, 2015, Vu launched 15 TVs that will be available exclusively on Flipkart. In this largest range launch yet by Vu, they have tried to meet the needs of different customers with different budgets. And that is why, this new range of televisions launched by Vu vary from the price range of Rs. 9,000 to 9,00,000.

Talking about the launch of this largest range of televisions by Vu, Devita Saraf, CEO and Design Head, Vu Televisions, commented, Years ago, Vu entered the television market with a limited range of products available in stores. Today, Vu is launching a vast range of television sizes and configurations to compete with the likes of Sony, Samsung, and LG and these new televisions are available to the public for purchase online.

Vu calls it their mission to provide luxury television experience at more affordable price. And to achieve this, they opted for the online-exclusive availability of their new TVs. The offline retailers expect higher margin than the online retailers. Higher margins mean higher costs of the products. That is the reason more and more companies are opting for online-only launch of their products. As the online retailers are ready to form lower margin deals and partnership with product companies, the overall price of the products can be made more affordable for the consumer.

This same consideration must have led Vu to launch their new televisions exclusively on Flipkart. However, this partnership of Vu and Flipkart is only limited for television sets upto 55 inches. Larger Vu televisions will be available on stores. This might be because more people would want to experience these big televisions before spending so much money on them. And this live experience is only possible in offline stores.

Commenting on this partnership between Vu and Flipkart, Amitesh Jha – VP Retail, Flipkart said, “The VU TV series has been very well received by our customers since its launch last year. We are happy to announce this exclusive partnership today and are positive that this will help us offer new-age and advanced electronic products at affordable prices to our customers. Overall, with more and more Indians opening up to shopping online for big ticket items, we are confident that the VU range of HD and UHD televisions will be an instant hit.”

In this latest launch, Vu has introduced TVs in three categories. These are Personal TV, Affordable Luxury and Hi-Fi 4K Ultra HD televisions. The Personal TV category includes television of 19 inches to 42 inches. These are equipped with all the connectivity options needed to connect a mobile or laptop to the television.

The Affordable Luxury televisions range from 46 inches to 65 inches model. These television models boast of having thin bezels, large TV displays and attractive, budget-friendly prices.

For those looking for more luxurious television experience, Vu has launched Hi-Fi 4K Ultra HD category of televisions.

Following the launch of UHD broadcast in India by Tata Sky, Vu has introduced a larger range of 4K UHD TVs which range in sizes from 42 inches to 85 inches. This includes the 65 inch curved TV.
