New Girl 1x02: Kryptonite

Original Air Date: 27 September 2011

Storyline: Nick and Schmidt convince Jess to get her stuff out of her ex-boyfriend Spencer's apartment; Jess meets new roommate Winston, who has returned from playing basketball in Latvia. Winston tries to get his old room back from Schmidt. Best Quote:

Schmidt: You consider me a sexy man, correct?
Jess: I don't know how to answer that question.

She's Adorkable! He has a power over me. It's like he's a wizzard and I'm his mage.Review: Just before I started writing this review, I found out that New Girl is the first new show to get picked up for a full season. Yey for that! For once, FOX made a good decision. On the other hand, this second episode was not as funny as the pilot.

For starters, Lamorne Morris  is not Damon Wayans, nor is his character, Winston, as amusing as Coach. Also, I feel like Winston is not only a replacement for Coach, but they want to make him actually be Coach, which is a bit lame. I didn't find any of his lines funny and messing with Schmidt actually made me hate him a little bit.
Also, Jess going to take back her TV from Spencer and dragging the guys along felt a little bit like Penny sending Leonard to get her TV back from her old boyfriend in The Big Bang Theory pilot episode. I know that it's hard to come up with new stuff, but it's enough that the two shows are already compared (same dynamics - a recently single girl making friends with a bunch of guys, with the difference that the geekiness factor is reversed), we don't need the same plotlines as well.
There were a couple of funny scenes in there though. I definitely liked Schmidt looking for the spot in his room that made him look sexiest. Also, Nick helping Jess to get over Spencer by punching the pillow was pretty good. From all the supporting characters, I like Nick the most (though he has his whiny moments when he reminds himself about Caroline) - he's sensible and has the highest normality ratio, which balances well with Jess' quirkiness. Jess and Nick brushing their teeth and having Schmidt come out of the shower was pretty funny as well, I kind of love her lack of boundaries.
As a highlight, I definitely loved the new intro, it was cute and quirky, much like the main character. However, for the most part, the episode has less laughs than the pilot, but I still have high hopes for this series. New Girl 1x01: Pilot Back to Season 1
