The French Kitchen Cookbook by Patricia Wells
National food treasure Patricia Wells, author of over 15 cookbooks on French cooking, trumps herself with her latest offering. The French Kitchen Cookbook is a series of the most beloved recipes from Patricia Wells cooking classes that she gives in her Provence home Chanteduc and her Paris apartment in St. Germain. Lush photos and simple to prepare recipes in nice big type make you want to prepare every one of them on the spot. Speicalties include miniature onion and goat cheese tatins, Fricassee of chicken with fennel, capers, tomatoes and sausage, and apricot and lavender honey sorbet.

Flyover Lives by Diane Johnson
After writing a succession of best selling and award winning books about French life in Le Divorce, Le Mariage, and L’Affaire, author Diane Johnson has gone back to her American roots with a memoir about growing up in the Midwest. After receiving a stinging statement from a French friend “You Americans don’t know where you’re from, and you don’t care.”, Diane begins to dig into her family’s past, delving into letters and memoirs written by her family’s early American settlers. She also richly tells the details of small-town life—her parents’ “Updated Cape Cod” house built from mail-order blueprints; Friday night football; bridge games; golf lessons; lutefisk at Christmas.

The Hotel on the Place Vendome by Tilar Mazzeo
Since in opening their doors in 1898 The Ritz Hotel is synonymous with glitz, gilt, and glamour with royalty, dignitaries, and celebrities gracing the rooms of the legendry hotel. In 1940 when the Germans occupy France, The Ritz is thrown into high drama and intrigue with guests like Hermann Goring, who was the air force general that ran Hitler’s war machine while obessivley looting Parisian art treasures, Coco Chanel who closed up her fashion house to take up with a German lover, and Carl-Heinrich von Stülpnagel, the military commander of occupied Paris and a key player in the failed Operation Valkyrie.
