The new Nintendo 3DS systems which launched in Japan last Saturday sold a combined 233,483 units over the launch weekend, reports Japanese gaming publication Famitsu.
The new regular sized 3DS sold 61,151 units, while the bigger XL (LL in Japan) shifted 172,332 units likely helped by the availability of a Monster Hunter 4G bundle.
Prior to this week the 3DS had sold 1.62 million units this year, averaging 40,000 units per week. Monster Hunter 4G sold 1.6 million copies. The new 3DS models feature an upgraded processor, second analog stick and additional buttons, with built-in support for Nintendo's upcoming Amiibo characters. Certain upcoming 3DS games will only be compatible with the new models, too.
