Networking is Key

Networking is, arguably, the single most crucial factor in determining whether one will become successful or not. Those around you need to be aware of what exactly it is you want to do in your life so that if an opportunity arises, they will remember you. In other words, if no one knows what you want to do, or what you are great at doing, many opportunities are passing you by each day. Some find it unnatural to bring up what one wants to do in their career upon meeting someone; but I find it quite simple. Networking is Key
Upon first meeting someone, there are generally a few basic questions that people ask. Asking someone what their occupation is can easily be placed among the top three.  This is a perfect lead way for you to confidently talk about your job, career, and/or skills. Make sure not to overdue it and become cocky and seemingly, self-absorbed. Always remember first impressions are the most important!
There are a few key points to remember when networking. One, make sure to only approach groups that seem to have a fun and inviting atmosphere. If you notice groups where only certain members dominate the conversation, or where some people stand off to the side and only speak when acknowledged, image how it would be working with, or for, them. Go towards groups that appear to have a similar chemistry that you and your own group of friends have.Networking is Key
Another tip is to ask open-ended questions. Not only will this help with the flow of the conversation, it also shows you are interested in the other person. People are more likely to open up when they are shown interest by others; especially those who they just meet. Who doesn’t love talking about themselves?
Remember that networking can be that bridge to your future career’s success and should be taken seriously. When meeting people for the first time don’t force an uncomfortable conversation and remember to just always be you. For a full list of tips on networking, click here
