Need Advice on the Dumpster Chair!

By Salvagedspaces @salvagedspaces
Need Advice on the Dumpster Chair! When Pete and I lived in the big city, we had an apartment that overlooked the dumpster. Best view ever! Apparently there are a lot of rich, wasteful people in that apartment complex because we saw every type of furniture appear next to that dumpster. One that I fell in love with right away was this abnormally tall wooden chair. Sure, it's a mess. But I think it has good bones! The problem is, I can't figure out what I want to do with it. It's been almost two years since I dragged it from the dumpster to my apartment garage so I really have to figure this out soon!
Here's the dumpster chair:
Need Advice on the Dumpster Chair!
Tall, dark, and handsome.
Here's what I love:
- Solid wood in good condition
- The details! It has beautiful metal flowers on the top sides (see first detail photo)
- The size. In case you can't tell in the photo, it's really tall and she's got beautiful hips!
What I don't love:
- The dirty upholstery.
- The woven leather on the back. It's beautiful, but somebody spilled white paint on top of it! (see second detail photo)
The spilled paint makes things difficult. I really don't want to paint the chair because I think the wood looks great the way it is. But with the condition of the woven leather (at least I think it's leather, it could be something else), I can't leave it natural. I don't think I can paint the woven leather without painting all of the chair, unless you have a good idea I'm not thinking of. I haven't tried removing the paint yet, but it looks like it's on there for good.
Have any of you ever tried removing dried paint from leather? If so, any tips?
I'm stumped with what colors to paint (if I paint) and colors should be in the fabric. What would you do with this piece? I'd love input!
