My Top Tips for Really Resting

By Cass
Hi all,
As you know I've been through a rough time with what I have aptly named the foot of death! It's the only word for it, it has been a painful appendage for well over a week now. So I have been learning how to really rest it.
My top tips for really resting
The trouble with resting a leg which is different from an arm is that you have to keep it elevated....truly that is the most annoying part. It means that you will rely on others more for help and support, something that can make you feel like a burden at times. So here are some tips I have come up with that will make sure you don't feel like a burden and get the rest you deserve.
Keep your mind occupied
You may have to rest your legs, but if you lie there doing nothing it will drive you mad. I am not the kind of person who can happily do nothing at all so I have been trying to keep myself occupied when I can.
I have done some work, I have watched numerous films....some good, some terrible! I've found a love for Masterchef USA. I've read for a little while and I've made sure I've always got something at hand I can be doing. It's kept me active mentally which makes sure that time doesn't go too slowly which is a big problem with resting.
Ask for help when you need it
When you are on crutches you really realize how much help you need! Your arms are auddenly filled with crutches so you cannot lift things, carry things, even pick things up from the floor. You will need to ask for help!
My top tips for really resting
I am lucky that I have some great people who are around to help me with different things. Maybe it's carrying a plate of food for me or making me a cup of tea. Once you have the support at hand you can relax and let in some extra happiness into your day!
Enjoy the rest
The hardest things for me is to simple rest! I am just not wired to be able to do it properly. However I have to know to heal and because of this I am put in a situation that can easily make me feel depressed if I let it.
So I have decided that I am going to enjoy my rest! If I get the rest right I will be up and being my old self in no time. However if I don't, I could spend longer on the crutches and in pain. Time is a wonderful thing so relax into the time and  take the rest one day at a time. This will help you in the long run.
