I wanted to take a moment to thank two people—and their respective stores—for supporting my novel, and, like me, they happen to work for independent stores, just as I am an independent author.

Special thanks to Nancy Russell at Greetings & Readings in Hunt Valley, Maryland. My book, “Beneath the Mimosa Tree” is on the shelves there in two spots: under “Regional/Local Interest” and under “General Fiction.” Greetings & Readings is considered one of the premier independent bookstores in Maryland, and I’m flattered that they now house my novel.

Also, Karina Ferrer, owner of  The Blue Door in Pasadena, Maryland, was the first person to welcome the book into her store. Thanks to some local publicity from The Severna Park Voice and The Pasadena Voice, it is selling well there, and we just replenished the shelves. In fact, I have an upcoming book club meeting scheduled for June 19, and many members of the 13-person club bought my book from The Blue Door.

When I was on the phone yesterday with my friend Jack, he and I were brainstorming ideas as to how to get the book a little more attention. Things like a video on YouTube and Q&A with the author are now on my radar thanks to Jack. I’ll be working on creating those over the next couple of weeks.

I can’t tell you how excited I am to receive feedback from folks who have read the book. It’s really inspiring, and it makes me want to march on with these efforts.

One thing Jack said, though, made me pause. He said, “You’ve established yourself as someone who knows a lot about self-publishing, but I don’t know a lot about ‘Beneath the Mimosa Tree.’”

Honestly, I feel like I’ve killed my Facebook friends and acquaintances with it. He then said, “I follow your blog, but I don’t know much about the book.”

Hmmmm…

I love hearing things like this. It makes me think even more and want to try even harder.

So here’s something you might not know about the book: It’s the perfect summer read. It’s a story of two people over the course of ten years and what happens to them after their relationship falls apart after college. It’s a story of love, family, and forgiveness.

If you can’t get to Greetings & Readings or The Blue Door, “Beneath The Mimosa Tree” is available through Amazon.com and Barnes & Noble.com.
