My New BlogPosted on the 21 June 2012 by Wendiw80
The new focus of my blog is going to be healthy living. And I am defining healthy living as a healthy viewpoint of my body, of food, of the earth and of each other. It's not going to be a blog about running, working out, cutting calories, etc. My goal in my life and now for my blog will be to talk about having an intention of service to people I meet and how I can do that. I think that was a little bit evident in the posts before, so it will just be a continuation of that without the other stuff.
One new thing that is exciting in my life right is that I have joined a CSA. It's called Mini Miracle Farms and it's located 7 miles from my house. I pick up my food every Saturday and it's always exciting to see what I'm going to have for dinner! I paid for the protein share and the veggie share, so I typically get 5-7 lbs of meet per week, a bunch of veggies & fruit, and a carton of eggs. A couple of reasons I wanted to join was 1) to get fresh veggies and meat every week without pesticides and from farms that reduce the impact on the environment, 2) to support farmers in my state and 3) to try different foods that I probably would never buy in a grocery store. So far, I've gotten lots of mustard greens, zucchini, squash, and green beans. I've gotten ground beef, lamb, and a chicken. And lots of peaches. So because of that, I may have recipes that I've used or how to preserve veggies, things like that.
I've stopped running for now simply because I have found myself getting into the calories in, calories out mindset. While I realize that many people feel this is an okay way to be, I do not want to feel that way. My goal is not the be skinny, but to be healthy. I actually really like running but because it's so difficult to do right now with lack of time and an inability to stay on a schedule, I'm either walking or doing a run/walk, depending on how hot it is and how I feel. I'm obviously doing yoga 2-3 times per week and would like to focus more on my home practice and make it more of a 4-5 times per week. Maybe I'll start running again, maybe I won't, we'll see.
Lastly, my trip to Rwanda is in less than two months and I feel as though I'm going to come back a changed person. I don't know how, but I can't imagine being there, doing something like that and not coming back different.
I hope that you enjoy the new area of focus!! Thanks for reading!
