My First Step Towards Minimalism

By Lindsayleighbentley @lindsayLbentley

I don’t write a lot about my religion.  It’s really precious to me, and I just don’t want to hear careless, hateful comments about something that is so intimate.  I’m sure it comes as no shock that there are ares of my life that are left un-blogged about.

But today is a special day.  He died for us.  For Me.  This will never cease to blow my mind.  Miraculous.

My oldest is on the road with his daddy, and he was so cute the other day when I was asking him if he wanted to go.  His only reservation was missing the Good Friday service at church.  He said he didn’t want to miss out on worshipping tonight because it’s when we remember that Jesus died for us, and it’s really important to him.

Precious boy.  He’s five and sometimes I forget that he’s both a person who takes his spiritual life very seriously, and also still a little guy who sometimes just needs a snuggle.

I assured him that he would get to do the same with Daddy while on the road, so he boarded the tour bus with the essentials: bus clothes (aka: sweatpants), an apple (for something healthy, he said), and a granola bar (for something treat-y, he said), Yahtzee pages and dice (because he’s the Yahtzee boss,) and his security blanket (because, well, he’s still only five.)

I love that he is able to travel with my husband. Schedule flexibility is the main reason we will probably be home-schooling our kids.  I also love that we have family who comes to stay often when Hank is gone.  I doubly love that it was just a day trip and they are nearly home.  Eek!

In “we ARE actually going to move into our dream home soon” news, I’ve started packing.  I’m about 4 weeks behind where I usually am at this point.  Part of this is due to being in the busiest season of my life so far.  The other reason is that while I’m packing, I’m also doing some major purging.

In an effort to become more of a minimalist, I devised a plan: {nearly} every evening, I set out 3 boxes.  2 are for packing belongings, the other is for garage sale items.  I’m pricing things as they go in the box and, with this plan, I should be successful in getting rid of roughly 1/3 of the stuff around here.  It’s pretty exciting actually!  The idea of moving into twice the square footage with 1/3 the amount of stuff sounds really fresh and free to me.

Alright, off to bed to watch Downton…

Happy Good Friday Everyone,
