mushroom tikka,i really want to give a try on this after tasting so many times outside.Finally i got the ingredients right and they are mint and coriander leaves along with little besan or gram flour to make that masala to stick to mushroom pieces.

Initially i want to try the same method as use for paneer tikka ,but dont want to make the same procedure again and again and also want to try the new combo ,the green chillies and green mint, coriander leaves gives a wonderful flavor to the tikka.I did not used any thickening ingredients like cream or cashews in the recipe.Just the left over marinade i used for the gravy too and the gravy thickens with the help of besan/gram flour.

I made these tikkas in grill pan which is so easier fro me and it does not need much oil or ghee there.Use the grill pan if you are using stove top method rather than shallow frying in kadai.lets move on making the recipe.,

gravy made with grilled spicy mushroom in onion tomato sauce

Ingredients

  • mushroom - 200 gm
  • onion - 2 roughly chopped
  • tomato - 2 roughly chopped
  • ginger garlic paste - 1 teaspoon
  • yogurt,ginger,garlic,mint leaves,coriander leaves,green chilli,gram flour/besan - for marination
  • red chilli powder - 1 teaspoon + 1 teaspoon
  • turmeric powder - 1/4 teaspoon
  • coriander powder - 2 teaspoons
  • garam masala - 1/2 teaspoon + 1/4 teaspoon
  • salt - to taste
  • oil/ghee - as needed
  • cinnamon,cumin seeds,cardamom - for tempering
Instructions
  1. Wash and clean mushrooms and dice into desired size.Grind the ingredients given for marination in the blender - 1/4 cup yogurt,1/4 inch piece ginger , 3 cloves garlic,mint leaves,2 green chillies and coriander leaves.

  2. Add the paste to the mushroom pieces and add 1 teaspoon red chilli powder,1/2 teaspoon garam masala to it and mix it well till the mushroom pieces coats well.Leave the mushroom along with the marination overnight in refrigerator.(or atleast leave it for an hour)Add gram flour or besan to it and toss it well.
  3. Then allow till it comes to room temperature.Grease the grill pan with enough oil and place the marinated mushroom pieces and grill it till it shrinks little bit and browned on both sides.

  4. Repeat he process till you finish the marinated mushrooms.Serve it as a snack if you do not want to make it with masala gravy.
  5. For the gravy,you have to saute roughly chopped onions with a teaspoon of oil and then followed by roughly chopped tomatoes.

  6. Cook it till the tomatoes turn mushy and then allow it to cool.Make a fine paste from it.
  7. Heat oil in the same kadai,add cinnamon,cardamom(both black and green cardamom),cumin seeds.Once it crackle,add the ginger garlic paste and saute it well till raw smell leaves.
  8. Then add the onion tomato paste to it and saute it till oil separates.Now add red chilli powder,turmeric powder,coriander powder,garam masala and enough salt for the gravy.

  9. Add little water and cook the gravy for 2 minutes.Now add the leftover marination to it and adjust the consistency with enough water.Cook again for 2 more minutes.
  10. Finally add the grilled pieces of mushroom and cook for 5 minutes.Switch off the flame and sprinkle chopped coriander leaves.
