When a frat house moves in next door, new parents Mac (Rogen) and Kelly (Byrne) are initially eager to create a friendly relationship as they miss their days of partying, but soon enough the noise gets too much and a rivalry begins. The couple and the fraternity soon go to war.
Well, this made me laugh. I was entertaining by it. It has some crude humor so it’s not going to be for everyone and honestly there are a few problems. For one, these people are really bad parents. They continually leave their child alone at home to go and party. Yes, they take the baby monitor but they don’t seem to pay much attention to it and I’m not sure they would even be able to hear if the baby was crying. I also don’t understand why none of the other neighbours raised concerns. I think I would have preferred it more if it was an actual street war with the fraternity vs the rest of the street, because having it confined to just one house is unrealistic.
I also still don’t understand why people go through the hazing process. If anyone tried that with me I wouldn’t want to be a part of whatever group they were in. Whenever I’ve seen it in movies it always feels mean-spirited and degrading, and I just don’t get why peer acceptance is so important that anyone would put themselves through that. Go chill out with some real friends. I’m glad that particular aspect of American culture hasn’t made it over here because it strikes me as ugly.
But still, the film is decent. I enjoyed it. It’s fairly forgettable and I’ll probably never watch it again, but it’s good for a few laughs. That’s not a ringing endorsement, but it’s the only one I have.
