It's true that you can't get a salon finish at home. All of those products, those electrical devices that promised that - they were lying. It's not possible because you don't have four arms. You don't have a perfect 360-degree view of your own head. Someone else, standing back from what they are creating, is always going to be able to have more control over your locks than you do by yourself.
However, that doesn't mean you can't get close - close enough to be happy. Close enough to be able to style your hair, so it resembles the style the hairdresser did, even if not quite so perfectly finished.
Preparation Is Essential
Hair that has been conditioned is going to produce better results - you probably didn't need me to tell you that. If you don't use conditioner for fear of making hair greasy, then just use it on the ends where you are most likely to need it. You don't need to leave it on for long; even a brief rub through and then rinse will work.
Choose The Right Tool For The Job
Hot air stylers are all well and good, and some can produce fantastic results. However, they are not going to be able to do as good a job as two separate tools.
Secondly, a pair of straighteners. Mini straighteners work best for short hair. If your hair is past your shoulders or unusually thick, then go for the regular size, and ceramic plates are an essential.
Use Sections:You don't have to divide hair up into the multiple sections that hairdressers use - that's too much for one person to handle. But do use three sections: bottom, middle and top of the hair. You should only use the straighteners on the top part, for fear of making hair feel flat and lifeless.
