Morocco, Instagram-ed

By Quinninmorocco

Part of choosing to live away from home for 2 years involves being away when bad things happen. The shooting in Connecticut has made it all the way to Tameslouht, Morocco, and serves as a topic of conversation among men sitting at the cafes and women walking to the hemmams. Logging into Facebook has always served as my immediate portal back into America, and it has definitely succeeded in doing so in terms of me “hearing” people’s thoughts/ beliefs/ anger/ sadness/ hopefulness regarding the situation and its meaning within a larger context of government, society, and even humanity.

Among all of this, a ceramics teacher who changed the way I viewed art in the third dimension started posting pictures of “happier things” on Facebook. Brilliant, right? I’ve been instagramming the shit out of Morocco lately, and couldn’t think of something to share with the world that could be the “happier things” from my life. A chicken spotted in the house? Culinary journeys? A view of an ancient mosque in Marrakech? A goat on the roof? These are small snippets of the beauty (and humor) that surrounds me daily. And I figured I should put that back into the karmic flow of the universe among all of the sadness that’s going on right now. ALMOST as good as an entire post of puppy pictures. Next time, inchallah.

So….enjoy!
