The X Factor semi-final saw Misha B sent home as Amelia Lily, Marcus Collins and Little Mix were voted through to the final. Is the result a tragedy or a triumph?

Misha B doesn’t blame Tulisa. During the live show, head judge Gary Barlow suggested fellow panel members Tulisa Contostavlos and Louis Walsh had ruined Misha’s chances early in the season by accusing her of bullying. But according to The Daily Mail, the 19-year-old isn’t bitter, insisting during a breakfast television interview: “Forgiving is the thing that I have done. I believe that in situations that occur in life, you shouldn’t get bitter you should just get better.” Luckily, it seems Misha B’s tendency to talk in irritating self-help-style soundbites is undented.

Judges Gary Barlow, Tulisa Contostavlos and Kelly Rowland each have one X Factor act in the final; Louis Walsh has none.

Poor performance. Bullying accusations aside, on The Guardian’s liveblog Stuart Heritage was unimpressed with Misha’s performance on the X Factor live semi-final: “It was a boring little ballad that reeks of playing it safe,” he said of her second song. Then again, Heritage wasn’t exactly overflowing with praise for finalist Marcus either: “He’s locked into whoop mode, and his performance turns into a weird impression of a reversing lorry. That was a disappointment.”

Popularity contest. By contrast, The Telegraph’s Michael Hogan was disappointed at the booting of Misha B, describing her as the show’s best contestant: “It’s a reminder that while it might repeatedly claim to be a singing contest, the programme is in fact a popularity contest. Musically, Misha B had the most X Factor.” Hogan suggested Misha can look to the success of previous eliminated X Factor contestants such as Cher Lloyd for inspiration. If this means the prospect of ‘Swagger Jagger II: Misha B Boogaloo’, The Periscope Post is very afraid.

X Factor on top. X Factor charity single ‘Wishing On A Star’ has reached number one in the UK charts. The song features previous contestants including Kitty Brucknell and The Risk -  but not Frankie Cocozza, after he was kicked off the show amid drug allegations.

Save our X Factor contestants. If Liz Jones’s backstage report for The Daily Mail is anything to go by, the X Factor contestants need someone to put out a charity single on their behalf. According to Jones, the “exhausted” wannabes barely had any contact with their mentors before the semi-final and the venue is “bleak” and full of litter.
