Mish Mash

Never before has a place struck me as being eked out with love than Mish Mash on Capel Street. You don't notice it at first but when you really look you become aware that everything is homemade, redesigned or refashioned.

I'd be easy to walk past this little spot on Capel Street but keep your eyes open for this cute homemade A-frame chalk board! 


This small cafe is run and owned by two lovely sisters called Natalia and Karolina. It opened just before Christmas a couple of doors down from the Black Sheep pub. The small and easily miss-able frontage hides a wonderland of color and crafts within.

This really caught my eye, I'm thinking it started out life as a copy of Totally Dublin?

Brilliant idea, a little sticker and immediately you have a personalised center piece! 


We stopped in at 4.30pm one Saturday looking for a small but tasty snack as we had dinner reservations at 8pm (a blog for another day!) We soon found out that the care and attention that's paid to the design and decoration of the restaurant is present in the food as well.

Ham emmental and tomato


M went for a ham and emmental cheese open (half-naked) sandwich which came with fresh tomato, a side portion of red pesto and dressed iceberg lettuce. He loved the wholesome grainy bread it was served on as well as the "surprise grains" hidden among the lettuce! It was a pity the ham came from a packet, some home cooked ham would have elevated it but for €5.50 it was decent enough. This one criticism is the only negative in an otherwise faultless experience though!

Serrano ham, avocadeo, rocket and mozzarella. 


I went for the Serrano ham, rocket, avocado and mozzarella sandwich which also came on the same delicious bread. This has to be literally the freshest sandwich I have ever eaten in my life. Not a pick of it was pre-sliced or diced and you could really tell the difference. It was worth every cent of €7.00!

First time trying John Lemon, very tasty and refreshing.


The red pesto deserves a mention all to itself! This stuff is fantastic, tangy and vibrant. I could have eaten a bucket of it! We both thought it was lovely smeared on top of our sandwiches.

Espresso cuteness! 


Along with the food we also had a mixed berry smoothie which tasted as good as it looked and an espresso served in a cute little thermal glass. 
Mish Mash is a welcome addition to the already eclectic mix of eateries that's on Capel Street. It's a place you wouldn't mind lingering and while the decor might reflect the name there is nothing mish mash about the food!
