Minimal Home Recreates Nature in the Heart of Amsterdam

Amsterdam’s de Pijp neighborhood, which means “the pipe,” gets its name from the low, narrow homes that dot the area. When architect Jaspar Jansen and his colleagues at i29 Interior Architects were commissioned to renovate a former garage in the central part of town, he sought to bring the outdoors in with natural finishes and colors. Jaspar Jansen and his team at i29 used strategic touches to bring nature indoors while renovating this former garage, such as adding an enclosed patio and custom rugs meant to recreate the look of moss.
