Mindil Beach Sunset Market, Darwin

By Monkeys And Mountains Adventure @Laurel_Robbins

The Mindil Beach Sunset in Darwin, Northern Territory, Australia, is one of the most beautiful I’ve ever seen.  The tide is out leaving small pools of water behind that reflect the sunset and glistening sand that is still wet.  The Northern Territory is famous for its colorful sunsets and not surprisingly it’s a popular place.
mindil beach market darwinOn Thursdays and Sundays the Mindil Beach Sunset Market is held where vendors sell food and arts and crafts.  It’s touristy and crowded around sunset time, but the crowds start to thin out afterwards, which is when the locals go.  It’s a happening place!   Both photos were shot with my new Canon PowerShot D20.  Had I had a swimsuit on, I could have gotten really creative and taken a shot from under the water since the camera is waterproof to 10m.

Know Before You Go to Mindil Beach Sunset Market:

  • The Mindil Beach Sunset Market is held from the last Thursday in April to the last Thursday in October.
  • The market is open from 5:00-10:00 pm on Thursdays and from 4:00-9:00 pm on Sundays
  • In July, the sunset is at 6:38, but you can check Sunrise and Sunset in Darwin to check the time for when you are going
  • I think the best photos are the ones that are taken from the wet sand, so you will want to be barefoot or wear shoes that you don’t mind getting wet

Thank you to Tourism Northern Territory and Canon Australia for hosting me.
