Milk Paint Hutch Makeover

I have a lot of favorite pieces of furniture that I have painted. They come into my life and leave ever so quickly. But there is one in particular that really captured my heart. I had no idea she had so much potential.

Maple Hutch Before

True beauty is on the inside right? Well, this girl was pretty on the inside. Solid maple and deceivingly heavy for her size. I think they call it big boned.

I thought this piece would be perfect in Sweet Pickin’s Milk Paint in Galvanized.

Galvanized Milk Paint

This hutch had a pretty slick surface so I used my Shellac trick to make sure that my paint didn’t chip too  much. You can see my Milk Paint Tutorial for Control Freaks Here.  I’m really on a gray and gold kick too. With all these little drawers, this piece was perfect for a little card catalog handle makeover.

Brass Plated Cabinet Label Holder

I ordered these pulls from D. Lawless Hardware and they are super inexpensive so I have just been ordering tons of them at a time. I also ordered the version with the larger pull handle for the drawers that will get opened and closed a little more often. They have them in a few different finishes too.

They were a bit of a bugger to attach though. This girl’s bones were rock hard and many of the soft brass screws just broke right off. (Seriously, this hardwood maple is no joke!)

But with a little elbow grease she was ready for her debut!

Alas, once her outer beauty matched her inner beauty she was gone! Sold in one weekend. I knew she wouldn’t last long!
