Microsoft touts the HoloLens to be “the world’s first untethered holographic computer.” Powered by Windows 10, the HoloLens lets you work with the Windows universal apps as 3D holograms, without needing any wires, phones or even a connection to a PC.

“With advanced sensors, Microsoft HoloLens can see what you are looking at and understand what you are communicating with your hands and voice.”

According to Ars Technica, who got to test this device hands-on, even the prototype model of the HoloLens appeared to be magical.

“With HoloLens I saw virtual objects—Minecraft castles, Skype windows, even the surface of Mars—presented over, and spatially integrated with, the real world,” writes Ars Technica’s Peter Bright. “It looked for every bit like the holographic projection we saw depicted in Star Wars and Total Recall. Except that’s shortchanging Microsoft’s work, because these virtual objects were in fact far more convincing”

Microsoft is back, and bringing innovative technologies to our homes yet again. HoloLens will definitely be a game-changing device, as it heads out with a set of APIs that allows developers to create more amazing holographic experiences in the real world for future computing.
