Last week, I reviewed Someone to Love, a historical romance by Mary Balogh. Tina gave us a preview of a TV series called Agatha Raisin, based on mystery novels. Sim gave us another glimpse of the Millennium Bridge in London, this time in the movie trailer for The Sense of an Ending. Becky reviewed two classics: Barchester Towers by Anthony Trollope and Murder in the Cathedral by T.S. Eliot.
Me Before You by Jojo Meyers has been on my To Read list since June 2014, according to Goodreads. But, the movie came out before I got around to reading it. Meyers, the author, also wrote the screenplay, which always bodes well for a good adaptation.
Quirky and creative Louisa Clark takes a job as a companion to a quadriplegic man, injured in an accident two years previously. Will Traynor is the son of the local aristocratic family, proud owners of the picturesque Traynor Castle ruins. Can Louisa pull Will out of his doldrums while earning money to help her cash-strapped family?
Me Before You is not a romantic comedy because of the serious nature of Will's injuries, but we laughed a lot. We decided it doesn't make a good date movie for people early in relationships, but after 25 years of marriage, it worked for us as a movie that we both enjoyed.
After seeing this movie, I really want to visit Pembroke Castle, the castle that played the role of Traynor Castle in the movie. Pembroke is the largest privately owned castle in Wales. It's open to the public and houses displays to tell the history that begins in the 11th century.
