This year’s Wings Over Wine Country Airshow highlighted an appearance from our Northern neighbors and it appears that this pilot wants to shoot for the moon. For the 2016 season, the Royal Canadian Air Force CF-188 demonstration aircraft sports a paint scheme commemorating the British Commonwealth Air Training Plan (BCATP). The striking yellow wings are the color of the primary aircraft used during the program, a black fuselage signifying the “darkest days” of World War II, and a red line for the “life line” of Canadian people towards the war effort. In 1980, the F/A-18 was selected as the winner of the New Fighter Aircraft Project competition, and a production order was awarded. The Royal Canadian Air Force began receiving the CF-188 in 1982 and operates 138 Hornets. Nikon D500 w/80-400 mm, processed with Aperture.
