April 2016

While at Moffett Airfield to photograph the midnight arrival of the Solar Impulse from Hawaii, Rob Edgcumbe pointed out dim Hornet-like shapes in the distant shadows.  With some time on my hand, I set up my tripod and took this four second exposure (f/7.1@ ISO 3,200)and even captured a safety escort in motion.   I was surprised at the relatively sharp result, considering how dark it was.  The EA-18G Growler is an electronic warfare version of the two-seat F/A-18F Hornet, which entered production in 2007.  The Growler has replaced the Navy’s EA-6B Prowler which was retired in 2015.  Nikon D7100w/70-200mm, processed with Aperture and CK Suite.
