ER nurse Sloane Ferrell escaped her risky past—new name, zip code, job, and a fresh start. She’s finally safe, if she avoids a paper trail and doesn’t let people get too close. Like the hospital’s too-smooth marketing man with his relentless campaign to plaster one “lucky” employee’s face on freeway billboards.

Micah Prescott’s goal is to improve the Hope hospital image, but his role as a volunteer crisis responder is closer to his heart. The selfless work helps fill a void in his life left by family tragedy. So does a tentative new relationship with the compassionate, beautiful, and elusive Sloane Ferrell.

Then a string of brutal crimes makes headlines, summons responders . . . and exposes disturbing details of Sloane’s past.

Thanks to the fact that I belong to the Tyndale Blog Network, I was recently able to receive Maybe It’s You by Candace Calvert for  a book review. As most of you know, I often share my book review assignments with my mother, Gloria. Lucky for me, Maybe It’s You was one of those books I knew Gloria would love, and I was right.

Maybe It’s You by Candace Calvert

Here’s Gloria’s review:

“I certainly recommend reading this excellent and emotionally moving inspirational romance says Serena Chase, USA Today on the back of the cover of Maybe It’s You.  This book is the third book in the Crisis Team Series but can be read as a standalone.   I did not read the previous two books and I had never read any of Candace Calvert’s other books.  Even though this is a Christian romance novel, this story is filled with medical jargon suspense, action, faith, forgiveness, and romance.  This book continues the story of ER Nurse Sloane Ferrell from the previous books where Sloane was an abused alcoholic and nearly died in a car accident.

As this story opens she has run from her questionable past in San Diego, changing her name, zip code, new living space and now a new job where she has been working for the past 3 months at the Los Angeles Hope Hospital.  Memories of her past are with her and they are heartbreaking and disturbing.  She is determined to become a new person, Anonymity is of utmost importance, avoiding developing friendships, avoiding alcohol and going to AA meetings, and avoiding anything that would draw attention to herself.

One day at work she rescues a young girl Zoey and meets Micah Prescott who is the PR person at Lost Angeles Hope Hospital as well as a member of the Crisis Team.  Micah’s cousin Stephen who he was close to was killed by a drunk driver and he holds a grudge toward all alcoholics and continues to struggle with his death.   Micah is working on a new way to improve the Hope hospital image and thinks that Sloan would be a good candidate for the “Face of Hope”.   She does not want her picture on a billboard and is determined to stay out of his project.

As Sloan and Micah start a new friendship they must go slow as they both have baggage that they are bringing into this relationship.  The story takes a dramatic turn  when brutal crimes, fires, human trafficking, Russian mafias, and Sloan’s conniving ex-boyfriend has tracked her down bringing danger with him and now Sloan’s past is being exposed.

This is an excellent book.  It keeps you guessing until the very end how everything would work out.  It is about second chances and is filled with God’s grace.  Candace Calvert has taken her characters from very dark places and brought them hope with the spiritual messages.

This is a powerful read that I would highly recommend.”

…..and so, there it is people.  Gloria loved the book and highly recommends it! Interested in reading an excerpt of the book?  CLICK HERE FOR BOOK EXCERPT.

Maybe It’s You by Candace Calvert

Who is Candace Calvert?   Former ER nurse, wife, Mom and proud grandmother, Candace Calvert believes that love, laughter, and faith are the best medicines. Her popular medical fiction offers charismatic characters, pulse-pounding drama, romance, humor, suspense–and a prescription for hope. Think, “Grey’s Anatomy finds its soul.” She is . . .

A Northern California native who spent several years in Hill Country Texas–where she learned to check her shoes for scorpions and plucked an armadillo from her swimming pool. Thinks cruising is the best way to travel: honeymooned in Venice, swam with stingrays, rode a camel at the pyramids, and sang (badly) with a Newfoundland country band. She’s passionate about cooking, loves bird watching, gardening, and gets goose bumps when her handsome husband hits the low notes at karaoke.  She writes inspirational fiction because . . .

God blessed her with a quirky wit, buoyant optimism, and a contagious sense of fun–but she didn’t come to know him until after the Triple Whammy that turned her life into a bad country song. A painful and unexpected divorce, the Northern California floods of 1997, and (just when she was coping like a champ, no problem) an equestrian accident that left her with fractured ribs, a bleeding lung, broken back, neck fractures and a spinal cord injury. She’ll tell you that God took drastic measures to get her attention.

In the months of rehabilitation, Candace healed in body and spirit. And came to fully understand the difference between being a strong woman and a woman of strength. The difference is faith, and that lesson has been her biggest blessing. Her story, “By Accident,” appears in Chicken Soup for the Nurse’s Soul, and launched her writing career. Now . . .

She is honored to bring readers medical fiction that offers exciting entertainment and a healthy dose of hope.  Candace loves to get to know her readers. To send notes to Candace, click here.
