The question remains, what was he thinking. Set aside the fact that turtles bite, stuffing 51 of those things down the pants is obviously not the best way to smuggle. The authorities have felt suspicious after seeing “irregularly shaped bulges” under Xu’s pants and have found the turtles after doing a quick search.

According to the Guardian, Xu wasn’t alone. He was working with his partner, Lihua Lin, who has been arrested later on at Detroit Metropolitan Airport for carrying over 200 turtles in his luggage. He was trying to summable them into Shanghai. Where these turtles are considered a delicacy.
