Nestled at the peak of the Titiwangsa Mountains, Resorts World Genting is an integrated resort by the Genting Group. Like its counterparts in Sentosa and Manila, the first Resorts World built is pegged to be a total entertainment destination, thus it boasts of three theme parks, five hotels, casinos, nightlife venues, shops, and various dining options.
After our visit to the headquarters of Chartis Insurance, we found our way back to KL Sentral where I previously saw the terminal for buses bound for Resorts World Genting. Getting there is cheap at 10.40 MYR, but the entire trip can take an hour and a half to two hours. The bus takes an hour, while the Genting Skyway cable car ride takes about half an hour.
Having slept for a mere couple of hours the previous night, the bus ride was an opportunity for us to nap. But before we knew it, we were to transfer already to the Genting Skyway, a 3.38 km gondola lift that terminates at the Highlands Hotel of Resorts World Genting.
I’ve ridden several cable cars before, but the Genting Skyway was quite a fun experience altogether. We enjoyed each of the 25 minutes it took us to the upper terminus, for the vista of the sprawling, foggy mountains and the foliage was simply spectacular. Looking back, the ride was perhaps the highlight of our trip to Genting.
As we alighted from our gondola, we immediately looked for the Genting Outdoor Theme Park. It took some minutes for us to walk to there, so by the time we were to buy our passes, their ticket counters were already closed. As it turns out, it closes at 6:00 PM.
Somewhat disappointed, we walked to the First World Indoor Theme Park, which was thankfully a visual delight. Inside were several exciting attractions that were supplemented by a cineplex, a number of shops, and an assortment of dining options.
We didn’t have much time to spend, so we decided to just do one ride for 8 MYR instead of getting the unlimited pass for 30 MYR. After much deliberation, we decided on the 4D Motion Master because The Little Prince was showing, but we were really disappointed that some horror animation was played instead. By the way, allow lots of time to queue; it took us 45 minutes to wait for our batch’s turn. There clearly were lots of people that weekend.
It rained so hard when we got out of the ride. Aside from the cold temperature that we liked a lot, rain is always imminent in Genting. Good thing, we were indoors, and we were ready with our jackets. Yes, it is advisable to bring a jacket and a set of clothes when going there.
I was happy that it was also a chance for us to try the Malaysian fast food joint, Marrybrown. It rivals KFC in fried chicken sales, but what sets it apart is its local offerings like nasi lemak. What I did try, however, was their chicken and sides for around 13 MYR.
After some window shopping and another meal at McDonald’s, we went back to the terminus of the Genting Skyway. The line was shockingly long, so it was fortunate that I remembered seeing directions to a bus terminal. We saw a bus company with trips to Titiwangsa LRT, so we opted to wait for that one. As there wasn’t a cable car ride involved, fare was only 5 MYR.
We had a great time at Resorts World Genting, and I don’t mind going there for a longer time the next time around. What made our visit so much better though was we spent little money on everything, so it was mission accomplished.
How to get there: Genting Express buses from KL Sentral will take guests to the lower terminal of the Genting Skyway. From there, guests will have to ride a gondola lift to Highlands Hotel.
