Make your own Valentine's Day floral gifts

Flowers are the number one most popular gift for Valentine's Day. From sending romantic flowers to decorating your dinner table, Valentine's Day flowers will certainly set the mood. While most of us place a flower order online or rush to a local florist, others look for ways of making something with that personal touch. When you make your own floral gift, you are showing your Valentine that you took the time and made the effort to make something just for them. Of course, you can still order a fresh bouquet and add chocolates to your order. Just be sure to include something handmade for that personal touch.

One great idea is to head out and pick fresh flowers yourself. Of course, this will depend on where you live and if there are any flowers currently in bloom. If your garden or neighbourhood are covered in snow or there aren't many flowers around, you can order a bunch from your florist and make your own vase instead. Use an old vase or any other suitable waterproof container to begin. Decorate the vase or container with paint, cover it with paper, or even decoupage. Arrange the flowers in the vase for that special somebody and make the delivery in person!

If you are the kind of person who likes to plan everything, then you could start by gathering flowers a few weeks before Valentine's Day. Place the flowers in a press and give them a couple of weeks to completely dry out and become flat. It's this drying and pressing process that will take most of your time which is why it's so important to plan early. When your flowers are ready, you can use them to make your own romantic Valentine's Day card. Remember to write a meaningful message inside! It's these words that will mean the most of all.

For those with loved ones who enjoy soothing soaks in the tub, then this is the perfect opportunity to make them their very own floral soap. Simply follow a basic soap recipe and add flowers (fresh or artificial) and floral essences of your choice! If you choose rose essential oil, you should add rose petals. If you use another oil and you cannot find the petals of those flowers, you can use a blend of your favourite petals. Be sure to store the soap in a cool, dry place until you are ready to present them to your Valentine.

Of course, if you want to go all out, you can use all of these ideas to spoil your partner or spouse. If you live with your partner or you want to treat your spouse, you might want to keep your supplies at work (if possible) and work on these crafts during your lunch breaks so that they don't figure it out!
