Make 2015 The Year of Awesome

By Fitfulfocus @fitfulfocus

HAPPY NEW YEAR, my fit and focused friends! Did you have an awesome New Year’s Eve? I  sure did, and now I’m ready to hit the ground running in 2015, which I am officially dubbing: tHe YeAr oF aWeSoMe! It just took me way to long to alter those caps… anywhoooo.

When it comes to resolutions, I try to make them measurable goals – things that are challenging, but at the same time are realistic to achieve vs. broad or subjective things like “be happy” (I’m always striving to be happy, after all!). So, how am I going to make 2015 the year of awesome? Behold:

Goal #1: Become a NASM certified personal trainer. I’ve been working toward this goal since September, and am planning to turn the dream into a reality THIS MONTH (eek!). I’ve been studying my little butt off, so fingers crossed I get that cert! Once I do, I have a bunch of thoughts swirling for how to bring my new skills to this blog, but that’s a convo for another time!

Goal #2 Complete the New York Road Runners 9+1 program. One of the races on my bucket list is the NYC Marathon – it’s my hometown after all! It’s pretty darn tough to get into, but NYRR offers a program where if you run 9 NYRR races and volunteer at one, you get guaranteed entry into the NYC Marathon the following year. For me, that’s 2016. I’m already registered for 3 races (two 4-milers and a 10k) and am volunteering at the New York City Half (which I sadly didn’t get into), so I’ll be more than a third of the way there by the end of March! I don’t have my sites set on any PRs. I’ve never run so many races in one year, so I want to take it easy to avoid injury. I say this now… I’m sure the competitive beast inside me will want to come out. Calm, competitive beast. Your time will come. Below are the NYRR races I’m currently registered for. Shout if you’ll be in NYC and want to join me!

Goal #3: Think positive! Ok, so I know this seems like a broad subject which I said I like to stay away from in terms of resolution making, but this is a constant goal of mine. I want to say it out loud so everyone can hold me accountable. Sure, we all need to vent and complain from time to time (and that’s a.ok!), but I’ve fallen way too far down the negatively well before. I’m not a fan of who I am or how I feel when I’m there. So in 2015, I will not be falling down that well. There are a lot of things I want to accomplish this year, and being positive is the only way to get there.

That’s it. I’m keeping it short, sweet, and attainable. A bunch of other goals will pop up throughout the year as they always do, but this is my main focus to start. And it’s going to be awesome!
