Look Before Putting Up That Banner or Inflatable!

Over here! Look at me! The big gorilla on top of the car dealership!

Nothing says “come on in” quite like a big inflatable ape. Over the years, car dealers have explored many flamboyant types of signs and banners. In fact, many auto dealers have become known for the inflatable creations, like giant gorillas and air dancers that reside on their lots or rooftops.

If it works for car dealers, it can work for you.

As rates for other types of advertising keep on rising (pardon the pun, we might get a little carried away here), inflatables offer a significant savings over traditional media like TV, radio, magazines, newspaper and billboards. Advertising inflatables and temporary banner signage offer a direct and visually striking way to reach local customers.

Look Up the Rules First!

Before you go purchasing (or renting) and putting up your inflatable sign or balloon, you need to understand what your city allows.

While every business has an allotment for permanent signage, check to see if you are allowed to place temporary signs over and above your permanent signage. Temporary signs are often used to promote a sale, grand opening, special event or clearance. Usually, a city permit is needed before any temporary banner or inflatable display can be put up.

What’s Up With Ad Balloons?

This catch-all category term includes everything from giant outdoor helium balloons to air dancers and cold-air inflatables. Advertising balloons can be used on rooftops or on the ground as a way to attract passersby to your business or event. Although most smaller businesses use them mainly to promote special events, others keep them up year round (which tends to diminish their impact).

Inflatables can come in a variety of shapes and sizes, from animals and human figures to custom-made logos and product replicas.

Inflatables can be rented (usually by the month) or owned. Purchasing your own giant advertising inflatable is like owning your own portable billboard—for a fraction of the cost. In addition to setting it up at your business headquarters, your inflatable can travel with you to events such as trade shows or grand openings.

Air Dancers

These are the balloons that look like a dancing tube figure. They use a vortex motor that pushes air into the air dancer’s body. Air dancers can also be branded with your logo or add lettering to use them as signage.

Cold-Air Balloons

These commonly take the form of giant creatures, such as inflatable gorillas. Go ape and request a custom design such as a giant inflatable of your product or logo. Cold-air balloons use a motor that keeps the balloon constantly filled with air to hold its shape.

Helium Balloons

Like a floating sign, helium balloons can include your company logo or message and take the shape of giant sphere, parade balloon, or blimp. Some are large enough to be seen for up to 3 miles.
