#London Walk of the Week: Building the Victoria Embankment - An #UrbanGeology Walk with @R_Siddall

The construction of the Victoria Embankment is one of London's greatest engineering projects. This walk will reveal the history of embanking the Thames, reveal important engineering considerations such as accommodating the River Fleet and the Metropolitan Line and tell the complex story of procuring the 500,000 cubic metres of granite required to embank the Thames. We will also look at the stones of Cleopatra's Needle, Somerset House and Blackfriars Bridge. Guided by University College London Geologist Ruth - it all comes down to the guiding! N.B. The walk takes about two hours and will end at Blackfriars Station.

To go on the Building the Victoria Embankment Geology walk meet Ruth at 2.30 pm on March 25. The meeting point is just outside the Villiers Street exit of Embankment Tube.
