The first week of October is National Poetry Week. To get you in the spirit Lance Pierson is leading his three different guided walks across the next three Sundays.
First up is John Betjeman, the former poet laureate and still considered a National Treasure. Above you can see Lance bringing to life his poem "Executive." The walk visits Betjeman's childhood home, school and other places he wrote about in Highgate.
After that it's the turn of John Milton, the only English poet who could compete with Shakespeare for the honor of our greatest poet. The walk takes you around the City of London to see the places Milton worked and wrote during the era of Cromwell's Commonwealth.
Finally Lance will lead you along the route between Waterloo and Westminster bridges to see the rich poetic heritage of the Thames bank. Shakespeare, Wordsworth, Donne and Burns all feature amongst many others. These walks are a treat for the mind and the ears!
Sunday 14th September 2014, 2.30pm - The John Betjeman walk starts at Kentish Town Station.
Sunday 21st September 2014, 2.30pm - The John Milton walk starts at Mansion House Underground Station (Exit No 4, signed to Bow Lane and St Paul's Cathedral).
Sunday 28th September 2014, 2.30pm - The Thamesbank walk starts at Embankment Tube Station.
N.B. Embankment is not currently accessible from the Northern or Bakerloo lines.
